Examinations

Examinations are held twice yearly - May and September - and are held at Raumati at the Scottish Hall.

They are recommended, but not compulsory to complete.

To qualify with a Diploma in Highland & National Dancing, dancers must complete all Highland Grade and Step Dance examinations.

Highland Grades are as follows:

* Initial

* Preparatory

* Grade 1

* Grade 2

* Grade 3

* Grade 4

* Grade 5

* Elementary

* Intermediate

* Advanced

Step Dance exams are as follows:

* Sailors Hornpipe Stage 1

* Sailors Hornpipe Stage 2

* Irish Stage 1

* Irish Stage 2

Upon completion of the Diploma, dancers are eligible to Teach & Judge. They also become eligible to sit the most prestigious performance examination called Solo Seal. This is for the most serious dancers who strive for perfection in performance.

Other non-diploma qualifying examinations include:

* Getting Started in Dance Level 1 & 2

* Lets Dance level 1 & 2

* Medal Tests (Junior Bronze/Silver/Gold/Gold Star - Senior Bronze/SIlver/Gold/Gold Star)

* 18&over steps assessment
